This year we went to our elementary school carnival. What a fun night! Tom had to work so I took the kids. They had a cake walk, lollipop draw, fishing booth, ring toss and many other fun games for the kids. The girls loved it. It lasted 2 hours and we opened and closed the place! Brooklyn's favorite activity was the fishing booth and Kenzie's was plinko. My favorite was the silent auction. So, there were like 75 prizes at this silent auction and I didn't go to it until like 45 min. till it was over so I figured I was too late but thought I would just check it out. Well, I noticed that there were lots of the prizes that hadn't even been bidded on or for a minimal amount for what you get so I decided to put my name down on some. Well, bidding on some turned into a lot and I actually won a bunch of stuff. I won 3 nights at a cabin in Lava Hot Springs, ID, 6 nights at a hotel in Pokey (I know, we live 45 min. away but I figured it would be fun to go there because they have a pool, go swimming, hit Costco, then go home (come on, $5 a night), some handmade jewelry, $25 gift card to a local restaurant, and another gift card to a jamba juice. Can you guess what I got all of this for? 70 bucks. That's it. One hotel night at Lava Hot Springs goes for 85-120 per night. I think I got a bargain! If I would have known I would have won all that stuff for dirt cheap then I would have bid on more stuff! What's funny is the gift baskets full of premade meals and cheap food went for like $100. I could have bought the same stuff cheaper at the grocery store. It was definitely an interesting dynamic of people at the carnival. Brooke says she wants to go with me next year just for the silent auction. We may have a bidding war if she does come. :)
Ok, funny story...or maybe a scary story...We have a Halloween bowl with a hand coming out of it. When it is on it snaps down on the unsuspecting hand that tries to steal a piece of candy. Well, the first night that I set up all of the decorations the girls were really scared of this bowl. They kept running to me and told me that the "scary hand" was going to get them. I didn't really know what they were talking about and just laughed at their creativity. On a side note, they are getting to be really creative and imaginative. They tell me that there are alligators on the floor and that their babies are crying and they need to take care of them. Back to the "scary hand" story. Then I figured it out. When I was in the family room they would yell to each other for "hands" so that they had a buddy to go past the table that had the "scary hand" on it. They were really scared of it. Luckily, they have warmed up to the "scary hand" and like to tease their cousins when they come over to play. Or rather, their cousin Hailee likes to tease them. I think we are going to have a lot of fun with "scary hand" this year for Halloween.
I remember how much we loved the school carnivals growing up so it is fun to see the girls enjoy it too. Way to get some major loot!
